OSRAM is the name you can trust since 1925
OSRAM has been a trusted and respected household name for more than 100 years. Since 1925 when the first OSRAM BILUX® bulbs were introduced, OSRAM has become a world famous brand in the automotive lighting market.
Today OSRAM is the world's number one supplier of automotive bulbs and LEDs for vehicles. OSRAM is specified and trusted by all of the leading car and truck manufacturers and has an unrivalled reputation for producing “Original Equipment” quality bulbs using optimum materials. Innovation and quality are at the heart of the OSRAM brand, giving our customers reliability and maximum quality.
Car manufacturers, blue-chip fleet managers, and quality parts distributors certainly do not take the view that a bulb is just a bulb. That is why they choose OSRAM Original Equipment bulbs. They trust the brand and know that they will be getting a high quality product when they purchase from OSRAM. OSRAM bulbs are used and approved by almost every major vehicle manufacturer worldwide because they know that OSRAM will not let them down. Many blue chip fleets have also realised that compromising on the replacement bulbs they use is a false economy which is why they so often choose OSRAM products.
OSRAM OE quality products offer the solution - fit and forget!
In 1925, OSRAM showcased the world a simple, yet ingenious solution – a bulb with two filaments, one for dipped beam and one for main beam. The BILUX® bulb was born and specifically registered to OSRAM. This enabled all the functions, which previously took up a lot of space and required complex mechanical designs, to be combined in one single light source. The bulb produced two beams with different strengths and angles in one single reflector.
Headlight manufacturers reacted quickly, and this technology became the typical light source in all conventional vehicles in the 60s and even the 70s. It’s still available today in its original form. The first generation of the OSRAM BILUX® bulbs generally had a P45t base and an electrical output of 40/45 watts.
Best Practices on looking after your lights
When it comes to vehicle safety, most people tend to overlook one important aspect – their headlights. In fact, the majority of motorists only ever consider their headlights and bulbs when one breaks or burns out. But there’s more to light than simply changing a bulb. The reality is, headlight bulbs grow dimmer over time, losing up to 30% brightness after 500 hours of use. Drivers underestimate the dangers associated with poor light. Considering that an estimated 1.3 million people are killed on the world’s roads each year, the importance of headlight brightness becomes even more significant.
#1: Check and Change
Just like a summer tan, your car lights will eventually fade! Be proactive - check and change bulbs before they burn out!
- Regularly clean and polish lenses – especially before testing
- Regularly check each light in the vehicle including rear, side, front and interior applications
- Park close to a wall and turn on the lights to see if they are balanced
#2: Change in Pairs
Just like a pair of work gloves, two headlights are always the safer option! Be smart - change bulbs in pairs to ensure a balanced light output!
– Unbalanced light is a safety risk for drivers and other road users
– When one bulb fails, the other usually fails soon after - replacing both helps avoid a repeat
visit to the garage
– Replacing bulbs in pairs ensures perfectly balanced light for better visibility and improved safety.
